Mirka Mora Tribute
Project: Booklet Design
2019
A short four paged booklet that pays homage to a famous artist without using their own imagery. The idea was to create a work that embodied their style and essence.
One of the many things Mirka Mora was famous for were her soft 3D sculpture dolls, so the overall design focused on integrating this into a format that could also carry information about her.
This had its challenges but also lead to many opportunities to explore new programs and technology, and learn new skills.
Whilst the general concept of the doll stayed consistent throughout the project - taking inspiration from the consistent symbols of cherubs, animals and faces in Mirka's work - the shape involved continuous change until the final iteration.
Things that had to be taken into account were seam allowances when sewing, ability to stuff and ample area to connect and create a spine.
In really getting to know Mirka Mora the artist and person, I studied her paintings for the types of creatures she created and the emotions they carried.
I developed a simple font from her handwriting using Glyphs and a reoccurring pattern inspired by the many faces seen in her work.
